Sales of passenger vehicles increased by about 16 percent in January- FADA

According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), the sales of passenger vehicles increased by about 16 percent in January. Last month, 22.9 lakh vehicles were sold while 21.5 lakh vehicles were sold in January 2024. It increased by 30 percent as compared to the sale of December 2024. All categories made a good start of the year. Sales of two -wheelers, three -wheelers, tractors and commercial vehicles increased by 4 percent, 6.8 percent, 5 percent and 8 percent respectively.

Fada President CS Vighneshwar said, “The increase in sales during this month was partially due to some sales postponed in December. So, there was a decline in that month.
In January, the sales of passenger vehicles were recorded at 15.53 percent on an annual basis and 58.77 percent (some purchases of December in January, so that the ‘model of 2025 could get the benefit). Maruti Suzuki India, a market leading market, led a 20 percent increase in sales during January and led the increase in retail sales of vehicles. Hyundai Motor India increased by 13 percent and Mahindra & Mahindra by 20 percent, while Tata Motors saw a slight decline of 0.4 percent.

Vighneshwar said, ‘The urban market increased from 60.8 percent to 61.8 percent. But in fact, the rural area has registered a higher increase of 18.57 percent on an annual basis, while in the urban area it was 13.72 percent. Many dealers saw improvement in demand. But also pointed to last year’s huge discount, which helped to sell older models and transfer registration. Stocks sold without vehicles have improved and it has come down by about five days to 50 to 55 days which is a sign of improvement in supply-brain balance. ‘

In January, two -wheelers’ sales increased by 4.15 percent compared to last year and 27.39 percent compared to December. Urban markets stake in the sale of two -wheelers in January, which was 41.6 percent in December. Urban sales were ahead of rural areas as compared to last year and increased by 4.54 percent.
Dealers stated that the introduction of new models, the demand for the wedding-wow season and better financial assistance helped two-wheelers. However, according to Fada, concerns regarding interest rates, cash challenges in rural areas and market uncertainty are still intact.

In January, sales of Verse Jy’s vehicles increased by 8.22 percent compared to last year and a rise of 38.04 percent compared to December. During this period, the share of urban market improved from 50.1 percent to 51.2 percent on an annual basis and the rural growth surpassed.
