Two years ago, food aggregators like Swiggy and Zomato entered the instant food delivery market with Swiggy Express and Zomato Instant. Due to operational challenges, the services promising delivery in 10 minutes were discontinued after just one year i.e. in the year 2023. The quick food delivery concept, which had failed once before, is now being prepared afresh in this year 2024. In just two months of its launch in October this year, Swiggy’s 10-minute food delivery service Swiggy Bolt has gained popularity. It is said that this service has a five percent share in its food delivery facility. Bolt was initially launched in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai and Pune.
Zepto Cafe, another company to enter the food delivery market in the year 2022, is also rapidly expanding its operations. According to a post by Zepto co-founder Adit Palicha on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on December 11, the platform is now handling 30,000 orders daily.
“We are adding more than 100 cafes every month and we are on track to achieve substantial growth by the end of this year,” Shashank Shekhar Sharma, chief experience officer (CXO), Zepto Cafe, told Business Standard. Currently, Zepto Cafe operates 120 cafes and is expanding to cities like Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune. Sharma said, ‘By the middle of next year, our target is to completely expand Zepto’s network. To strengthen our position, we are focusing on high-demand urban areas.
Taking on the likes of Swiggy Bolt and Zepto Café, Zomato’s BlinkIt recently launched ‘Bistro’, a standalone application for delivering healthy drinks, snacks and food. After the demise of Instant, Zomato is making its second attempt to enter the instant food delivery category through Bistro.
Joining the growing number of players in the market, Ola Consumer has also made its presence felt with the launch of Ola Dash. At present this facility is available only in some selected areas of Bengaluru. It is noteworthy that Ola Dash was originally the company’s 10-minute grocery delivery service, which was discontinued in 2022 within a few months of its launch.
