Mission 3,000 on track, freight will increase in freight on completion of some projects: Vaishnav

Amid the criticism being caused by the transportation of freight from the railways, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the major cargo vision mission of the ministry is on track 3,000 and will lead to a strong increase in freight.

Under the mission, the government wants to achieve the target of transportation of 3,000 million tonnes (MT) from rail by 2030.

Vaishnav said in a conference in New Delhi, ‘Mission 3,000 is still underway. There are some projects, on which the freight transportation will increase drastically. For example, when the Sonnagar Andal quadrilateral project is completed, there will be a strong increase in loading. Similarly there are some other projects. This sector was first ignored. Now we are investing Rs 2.5 lakh crore every year.

In this financial year, the ministry has carried 1,600 MT freight for the first time, but to meet the target under the mission 3,000, the transportation will have to be doubled in the next 5 years. After presenting the Union Budget on Saturday, those who monitored this sector said that the growth rate of freight has been relatively low, especially when the Railways reduced the target of freight in the current financial year by 15 MT to 1,635 MT. Was. The target of 1,700 MT for 2025-26 is set.

This is 4 percent higher than the revised estimate of FY 2025. After the temporary ban on the railway after Kovid-19, the freight transportation has increased by two points every year and the transportation has crossed the important stage of 1,500 MT. In the current financial year, the freight transportation is estimated to be just 2.9 percent. According to Vaishnav, there are some obstacles in the network, which after removing the goods of the railway will gain momentum. He said that the government is reducing 6 hydrogen trains and Namo Bharat train, which will be non -air -conditioned.
