Government gas company Gayle (India) Limited has performed brilliantly in the December quarter. The company earned a net profit of Rs 3,867 crore, which is 36% higher than the previous year. The special thing is that a big contribution to this edge is the compensation received from the Russian company Sefe.
Compensation of Rs 2,440 crore from Russia’s company
Gayle had filed a case against Russia’s sex marketing and trading and sought a compensation of $ 1.817 billion (about Rs 15,000 crore). But under the agreement reached in January 2025, the Sefe ended the controversy by paying $ 285 million (Rs 2,440 crore). The agreement provided tremendous advantage to the company.
What was the dispute?
Gayle signed a 20 -year compromise with the Russian gas company in 2012, with 2.85 million tonnes of LNG every year. But in 2022, due to the Russia-Ukraine War, Sefe stopped the supply of gas. Gayle sought compensation for this and the matter was resolved in January 2025 after a long legal battle.
The company’s income was stable
The company’s total income was Rs 34,957.76 crore in the quarter of October-December 2024, which was almost the same last year. The company earned as much income from the three major areas of natural gas and LPG transport, gas marketing and petrochemicals last year.
Gas marketing gained 53%
Profit increased by 39% in nine months
In the first nine months of FY 2024-25, the company’s net profit has increased by 39% to Rs 9,263 crore. Today, by the end of trading, Gayle’s stock was trading at Rs 167 with a gain of 1.06% on BSE.
Dividend gift
Gayle’s board has announced an interim dividend of Rs 6.50 per share. In this way the company has announced a dividend of 65%. Its record date is 7 February 2025. This means that investors who will have shares of the company before the record date will be able to take advantage of this dividend. (With PTI’s input)
