Tata Motors and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will jointly start a pilot project of hydrogen-powered trucks in this quarter. This initiative is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission to promote the use of green hydrogen in India.

This pilot project will run for 12-18 months, in which information related to trucks and fuel filling infrastructure will be collected. The trial run will begin on three routes in the country – Jamshedpur-Kalinganagar, Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Pune.

Recently, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 held in New Delhi, Tata Motors launched India’s first hydrogen-powered commercial vehicle, the Tata Prima H.28. It has a state-of-the-art four-cylinder H2ICE engine, which has a range of 550 kilometers.

IOCL will set up hydrogen fueling facilities at its petrol pumps. This project will work towards making hydrogen a suitable option for long-distance transport.

Tata Motors expects commercial vehicle sales to improve by fiscal 2026. The company showcased 14 smart commercial vehicles and six advanced solutions at the expo that provide real-time performance information.
