Zepto became the second most downloaded app in the world in food and drink category, MD in first place

According to Sensor Tower, in the second half of 2024, there was a tremendous bounce in the downloading of grocery delivery apps, which mainly led to Zepto’s 300 percent increase compared to the first half in India. In the last quarter of 2024, the average monthly users of Zepto grew more than Blinkit for the first time.

Zepto gathered domestic funding of $ 350 million in November, before which a $ 340 million fund was found in August. So far, the company has raised a total fund of $ 1.95 billion.

According to Sensor Tower, in India in 2024 food and drink category apps were downloaded 353 million times, which is 43 percent more than the previous year. India was 16 percent of the global download in this category. The number of sessions on Indian apps was 43,200 million, which was 21.7 percent higher than 2023 and 15 percent of the global sessions.

Indian apps are also big players in other categories. India was among the top 10 countries in terms of sessions on Cryptocurrency apps in 2024. Indian apps also dominated the retail category, where Meesho became the third most downloaded app in the world and Flipkart finished sixth. Shein and Temu finished first and second place.

In the video streaming category, Jio Cinema (due to its cricket rights) became the second most downloaded app in the world, while America’s Netflix was in the first place.

Three Indian companies made it to the top 10 in the financial services app category. PhonePe retained its position as the most downloaded app, while this list also included Paytm and Bajaj Finserv. Indian carpooling startup reached the top 10 in the Rapido Travel category. At the same time, Dream 11 stood first in the sports category.
