Tata Motors brings hydrogen-powered trucks, will run on these three routes

The country’s leading automaker Tata Motors has planned to run its trucks on the roads with hydrogen. At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, a senior company official said that Tata Motors will initially launch trucks running on hydrogen internal combustion engines on the roads in the March quarter.

Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, Tata Motors will run the trucks on three routes for 18 months in collaboration with IOCL as part of the pilot project. At the Global Auto Expo last week, Tata Motors showed the first glimpse of a truck powered by a hydrogen internal combustion engine.

Girish Wagh, executive director of Tata Motors, said that the company is getting ready for both the technologies hydrogen internal combustion engine and fuel cell electric vehicles. He said that trucks with hydrogen internal combustion engines will start appearing on the roads from this quarter. It will be run on three routes Mumbai-Pune, Jamshedpur-Kalinganagar and Mumbai-Ahmedabad.

Wagh said that the experience gained at the initial stage will be used to improve the product as well as improve the infrastructure for hydrogen fuel. He said this on Friday on the sidelines of ‘India Mobility Global Expo’ 2025 in the national capital.

“We already have 15 electric fuel cell buses which are being operated in collaboration with IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Limited) for more than 10 months,” Vadya said. “A lot of work is happening across the value chain regarding the use of hydrogen as a fuel.”
