Increasing rural consumption, but urban demand mixed

The Economic Review of the year 2024-25 states that private final consumption expenditure (PFCE) has increased in the first half of FY 2025. The review states that its indicators such as two -wheeler, three -wheelers and tractors show that rural demand has boosted the increase in private consumption. The review said, ‘It also shows the Rural Economic Station and Dharna Survey of National Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (NABARD) in January this year. In this, 78.5 percent rural families had informed about increasing consumption expenditure. It also states that rural consumption will also increase in the last half of the financial year and it will get high MSP (minimum support price) for bumper kharif crops and potentially good Rabi crops.

But the review states that urban demand is mixed. Quoting the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) data, it has been said that the sales of passenger vehicles during April to November last year have increased to 4.2 per cent in the sales of a year ago, which was 9.2 per cent in the same period of 2023, which was 9.2 per cent in the year 2023. .
The review said that according to Nielson IQ, the sale of everyday goods (FMCG) in urban areas has also increased slightly in the first half of the current financial year.
