Vedanta will invest Rs 1 lakh crore in Odisha

The mining group Vedanta said on Tuesday that its aluminum refinery and smelter (metal melting) project of one lakh crore rupees would be set up in Raigada district of Odisha. The company’s chairman Anil Aggarwal said that the first phase of the project is expected to be operational in the next three years, which will be expanded later.

Vedanta announced in October last year that it would invest Rs 1 lakh crore to set up an alumina refinery with an annual capacity of 6 million tonnes of annual aluminum in Odisha and a green aluminum plant with a capacity of 3 million tonnes. However, however, it was not mentioned where it would be established.

On the occasion of the state trade conference ‘Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha’, Agarwal said, “We will set up an aluminum refinery of 60 lakh tonnes per annum and aluminum smelter plant of 3 million tonnes per annum per annum. The total investment for this will be around one lakh crore rupees.
